    • Issues uniforms, vehicle parts, and other materials upon request

    • Receives materials from outside vendors for repair or return

    • Checks orders received from various Metro departments, divisions, and vendors and ensures placement in proper storage bin

    • Uses a Microsoft Windows-based computerized program to access inventory control system to identify, retrieve, enter, or revise storeroom and warehouse data

    • Operates a computer to identify and verify stock availability and status so that item is charged to the appropriate cost center

    • Conducts storeroom inventory to maintain adequate supply levels; may order supplies

    • Operates forklift to move, load, and unload materials

    • Responds to inquiries from various Metro locations regarding status of requested materials and parts

    • Cleans and maintains work area

    • Picks up and delivers supplies to various locations when necessary using a Metro vehicle

    • Modifies crates, pallets, or boxes to protect goods during safe storage or distribution

    • Adjusts pallet racking, shelving, or cabinets to maximize storage capacity

    • Maintains, supports, and promotes a safe work environment while complying with all of Metro’s safety rules, policies, and procedures



Requirements For Employment




    • 1 year experience performing stock, warehouse, or inventory control work in a computerized/automated environment within the last three years

    • Experience must include operation of a forklift

    • Experience in an automotive, mechanical parts counter support, or manufacturing environment is highly desirable

    • Possession of a forklift certification/license

    • Valid California Class C driver’s license



Knowledge:




    • Basic warehousing and inventory control practices

    • Safety procedures

    • Basic arithmetic

    • Vehicle operations and safety

    • Basic computer operations

    • Basic operations of material handling equipment utilized, e.g. forklifts, hand trucks, etc. Computerized inventory control systems

    • Nomenclature of parts, tools, and equipment used in a bus, rail, or automotive repair shop

    • Trade manuals and parts catalogs covering bus, rail, or automotive equipment

    • Computerized recordkeeping and related data entry procedures



Abilities:




    • Stock, transport, and distribute parts and materials

    • Implement Metro's inventory control procedures

    • Operate basic warehousing equipment such as weight scales, banding machines, and counting scales

    • Maintain inventory records and logs

    • Perform computerized and manual operations related to ordering, receiving, storing, and distributing bus, rail, or automotive parts, supplies, and equipment

    • Safely operate supply trucks, forklifts, and Metro vehicles

    • Operate a computer to enter and retrieve data

    • Follow oral and written instructions

    • Read, write, speak, and understand English

    • Communicate effectively with others

    • Lift and move objects weighing up to 100 pounds

    • Interact professionally with various levels of Metro employees and outside representatives

    • Travel to offsite locations within a reasonable timeframe
